Solved Search Indexing and SSD Question

I've heard from multiple sources that you should disable search indexing on an SSD. However, I noticed that this prevents 8/8.1's search function from finding certain things like "Devices and Printers" if the SSD contains the operating system files, which caused a huge annoyance for me as I like to use the search function to search for these things (it's faster than finding and clicking it on the Start screen). I also learned you can move the search index files to another location. I've done this already, so will it be safe to re-enable search indexing for my SSD? From my understanding, having the index files be placed on another drive prevents all the unnecessary writes from occurring on the SSD with indexing enabled. Am I right about this or should I keep indexing disabled regardless of where the index files are stored?

You're good, you got it down pack.

This whole SSD endurance writes thing though is blown out or proportion, really it was only meant for older SSD controllers.

The way I see it is, if you have an SSD: enable TRIM (done if 7 and 8/8.1 by default), don't use Hibernation or disable it if you don't use Fast Startup in Windows 8/8.1 and disable or limit system restore.

The three above will either highly impact your SSD's endurance or cause impact writes to your SSD. Other then the above mentioned indexing, Superfetch and ReadyBoot (not to be confused with ReadyBoost) does very little writes to your SSD over the course of time and you can go on without disabling them if you have use for them (eg. use search a lot, have dual SSD and mechanical drive setup, etc).

There's a lot of ancient information around about SSDs. If you do clean install of Win8 everything is set for use of SSD there's no reason not to treat it just like it was a "normal" HDD. If AHCI iz engaged in BIOS and you have all proper drivers Win8 /8.1 will set Trim active and take it out of list for defragmentation. Those are the only settings that can have an impact on SSD's performance. Other settings like Hiberfile, prefetch, system protection and PF can only affect amount of space but that goes for HDD too.
