I'm done with Windows 8/8.1 on my laptop.

One year of my life down the drain, well technically more like 6 months since I usually revert back to 7 after testing: Windows 8, Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows 8.1.

I really want and like Windows 8.1 on my laptop but the blurriness and change to WDDM 1.2 is killing my eyes, so I can't even if I want to and to think I finally got all the drivers I needed released and working on my laptop too...

Reverted back to Windows 7 to save my eyesight, I will look into getting a Windows 8.1 tablet when Cherry Trail comes to the market; currently waiting for Bay Trail on an Android tablet.

Nemix,
I have a laptop which I was considering buying Win 8 then upgrading to 8.1 but after reading more about updating all the drivers and worried about losing some of my software I am backing away to stay with 7 which has performed without any hitches.

Will take the money 8 costs and buy myself a GPS golf watch instead which give me front, back and center of the green.
Have a great week-end.
Dennis

It's probably a good OS. I have a tri-boot, but mostly use Win7 (and XP in XP Mode). I really don't see any great need to use Win8 at this point. Excited about 8.2 though. Sounds cool.

Have XP Virt. Mach. on Win7.
// 2-7-2015 - Purchased cheap Win 8.1 tablet. So far, it's amazing. Update: 5-24 - Switched to MS Surface 3. it's just a better way to go.
I got it fixed apparently is was my laptop's monitor INF drivers ICC profile causing the blurriness and super bright whites which started slowly killing my eyes.

Imagine turning your TV's sharpness half way down then turning out the contrast all the way up with Dynamic contrast turned on and then watching Bay Watch in the dark or with very dim lighting (I choose Bay Watch because it a bight show kinda like surfing online there's lots of whites).

That's what I was going through with Intel's old Windows 7 IGP driver unoptimized for Windows 8.1 combine with an out dated Windows 7 monitor INF driver ICC profile meant for WDDM 1.1, I found all the updated drivers through manual search and Windows 8.1 now looks slightly better than Windows 7 to me (colors are more realistic probably due to WDDM 1.2/1.3 and fonts are spot on like Windows 7).

I'm good on Windows 8.1 again...phew.

Glad you got it fixed. I was going to inquire about what your actual problem was as I haven't experienced the issues that you did with 8.0 or 8.1 on all of the computers I have run it on at home and work.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Just one casual observation:
The later versions of Windows, both 8.0 and 8.1 seem to come with an exceptional driver package.
They seem to have a driver for any mainstream piece of hardware. Only the more exotic or Proprietary pieces of hardware require specific drivers.

I've installed 8.1 on three different PC's now, and two of those are 8 years old, and 8.1 is running great and looking great on all of them.

Win 8.1 even picked up a PCI / USB3 adapter card, that required Drivers in XP. I was amazed!
I fully expected that card to NOT work at all under Win 8.1.

And as advertised.....it's FAST!

Happy Holidays Everyone!
TM
