keys on laptop start having other purposes.

I bought an HP laptop with windows 8 a few months ago, and since day one I have had this issue. At seemingly random times, the keys will stop using their normal function and start doing other things. For example, the F key will open up my files, hitting my down arrow key will minimize whatever window I have open. Oddly enough, the only way I have been able to figure out how to make this stop for the time is to open up my speech narrator, and then close it, and it makes everything go back to normal. This happens usually two times a day though, sometimes more and was hoping that there was something else I could do to stop having this issue at all. I have tried looking other places but havent gotten very far with a google search since I dont know how to word it well. Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi and welcome to EightForums.

Strange things like this happen a lot if certain keys get stuck such as the ALT keys or SHIFT keys.
They may not look stuck down physically but just try tapping each one a couple of times to see if that un-sticks them and rectifies the issue.

    Regards,
    Jamie

    EDIT:
Just remember, there are 2 of these types of keys on both side of keyboards

    EDIT 2:
In your case... i believe it maybe one of the Windows Keys (key with the windows logo on)

Sadly, this does not resolve the issue. I just tried it (issue seems to be happening a lot more often today) and still no luck on it.

Try a different keyboard, If you have a notebook, check your settings to insure that if you plug in an external keyboard that your onboard shuts off.

That is what I have thought of doing, but I wasnt sure if it was a faulty keyboard, or if it was a software issue since it reverts to hot key like functions and can be fixed with the weird narrator thing.

There is a function in windows, maybe in accessibility, that makes the keys like alt and ctrl sticky - instead of holding them down, you can click them and they stay down until you click them again. Could this function be getting enabled, causing these keys to get stuck?

The settings are in Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center - Click "Set up Sticky Keys" you can make it turn on by pressing shift 5 times. Unless you need this all should be off.

They are turned off, and it will still do it. It seems to happen a lot after randomly swiping my mousepad in a direction.
