How to Change duplicated Documents Folder to Pictures

In setting up a new Acer Aspire V I have managed to rename the default Pictures folder Documents and I now have two folders called Documents - see below:

I was trying to move the Documents and Pictures folders to DropBox (because DropBox is encrypted) in order to have all contents synced. I believe the problem may have arisen because Windows 8.1 (I upgraded from installed Windows 8 immediately after buying the PC and before the install of Office 365) may have put the Documents folder in Skydrive folder by default.

To complicate matters Acer also has some form of cloud storage that may be in the mix -the clear.fi folder below? It is worth noting that the two folders below appear in both Documents folders (above) even although one still had the old Pictures icon - see above.

Here is a shot of the folders currently in the relevant user folder:

Is there any way to unscramble this mess and get the folders to DropBox please?

    Many thanks.

Hello DCGSyd, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could use Option Two in the tutorial below to restore the default location of any affected user folders back to the default C: location. Afterwards, you could move it again if you like.

    Hope this helps,

    Merge?

    Hi Shawn,

Many thanks - have followed the Tutorial option 2 and I wonder what the term "merge" means because tapping on the relevant download opens the file in notepad after I select run. Is this correct the correct outcome or should something else have happened rather than the file opening in notepad?

Nope, that wouldn't be correct. The issue is that the file association for your .reg files is not set to open with Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe).

Default Programs - Associate a File Type or Protocol in Windows 8

Afterwards, see if you area able to merge the .reg file by double clicking on it, or right click -> Merge.

    Merge

OK thanks - that has got the correct program running and I have the default folders back again!!

Do you have any tutorials on how to safely move Documents and Pictures to DropBox so that any material is automatically backed up in future?

    Many thanks

I'm afraid not. Just for SkyDrive for now if you like.
or perhaps this: Removable Drive - Save Music, Pictures, and Videos On

Were you able to get back to square one with everything ok?

Windows 8.1 Documents Folder - Move to DropBox?

Hi Shawn, Yes thanks - I got the Documents & Pictures folders back to normal.

I am still keen to have everything including subfolders in the Documents folder automatically saved to Dropbox for backup that is encrypted and to sync to other machines such as a laptop but, after that last experience I am reluctant to experiment without a proper roadmap as I am worried about conflicts with SkyDrive and the Acer cloud product that is on the machine.

I have looked at your two suggested tutorials and would be grateful if you see anything specifically dealing with Windows 8.1 and DropBox Folder moves that would be useful.

    Many Thanks.

I'm afraid that I have no experience with DropBox.
