    Windows 8.1 unable to repair/rollback

    Hey all,

So about a few days ago my windows 8.1 decided to shit itself and refused to start up. I started checking on the web for some solutions to my problem and one of them was to start up with the windows DVD and try running the repair tool and such.

So I decided to do that, but no matter what option I tried, be it repair tool, recovery, full recovery, roll back, none of the options worked, it kept telling me "this operation system doesnt support this feature" or something along those lines. So in the end I just desided to format the HDD and reinstall Windows 8 and its running fine right now.

My question is why wasnt I able to use those features, and how can I make sure I have those feature available for me in the future?

Note: As I was typing this I just realised the DVD I tried using to use those various tools was a Windows 8 DVD, the windows I had installed was 8.1. Can that have anything to do with it?

You can not use the Windows 8 Repair tools with install of Windows 8.1.

That has everything to do with it. You can't repair any system with a disk that has the previous version on it. This used to be asked a lot by XP SP3, Vista SP2, Win 7 SP1 users. You can regard 8.1 as the first service pack for 8, I suppose. What you'd need to accomplish it would be an 8.1 DVD.

Is this any help? Automatic Repair - Run in Windows 8

    Sure thing.

If I was you I would:

For your own peace of mind you should test them to see if they work. For example I made a system image on a bitlockered drive and I could not recover using it when booting from the recovery usb drive I had made. It is worth testing it when you are not in too much of a hurry to avoid this sort of inconvenience.

    Hope this helps

Edit - you may also want to make an 8.1 ISO as well (see How to download the Windows 8.1 ISO) just to be safe. Perhaps this is overkill but a good idea if one of the other options fails.

Wow thanks a lot for the quick respons guys.
Yea to be honest I didnt really think about the fact that it was a Windows 8 DVD and not a 8.1. It all makes sense now

I will check and read throu all your suggested tutorials, and definitly make a recovery/refresh drive/image.

Thanks a lot, ill mark this solved

I have a question about this, I can only see a option for US and UK, but Im using a Swedish version, will it matter if I download the UK version?

At the bottom left of those pages you should be able to change the country to Sweden.

I used the UK version and after checking it seems to be have downloaded the swedish version so it seems to be all good.
I guess it checks what version you have installed and download according to that
