    PC ran into a problem and needs to restart Windows 8

    I've been trying to enter into my desktop but my Windows 8 Professional keeps saying theres witht the pc and needs to restart. Then it enters into automatic repair and prompts me to choose the language and keyboard layour (tried a zillion times). then i try to troubleshoot by picking the refresh your pc option and its saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. i also tried the advanced options and still nothing is happening. I hope someone can help me with this. thanks in advance!

    Have you tried booting into safe mode? If you can look in Device Manager for yellow '!' markers. You may have a hw issue.

    Well you system spects say your on win7? and it sounds like you boot manager is damaged this could be from a dyeing hard drive. Have you tried doing a Repair Install using your install disk that should rebuild your MBR

    Hello Sharvin, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    Did you encrypt your Windows 8 drive with BitLocker by chance?

    Hope this helps,

    You should check your hard drive at least. If you have a WD drive you use WDDIAG Dos Version, if it is Seagate you use Seatools Dos Version, you have to make boot disks for them or Bootable USB drives. GWscan can check both WD and Seagate drives, if you have a Toshiba or Hitachi Drive you have to use their programs.

    If you can't figure out how to get them on a boot disk, use Hiren's which has all of those, link is below. Ive been working on a bootable CD with only the Disk Checking tools on them I can share maybe. Until then, the disk checking tools on Hiren's is in Dos Programs/Hard Drive Tools.

    A bad hard drive can cause this to happen, but other things like using Bitlocker can too. So at least, check your hard drive with a full surface scan - WDdiag and GWscan use the same engine to do it.

    Get the recovery disks from the maufacturer.

    When they arrive insert disk 1.

    Restart & follow prompts.

    Keep the disks in a safe place for future use.

    ~~~Unless you have an image on usb already made.
    In that case insert the usb & restart & choose it to boot from.
    I had the same problem you do.
    I used my Macrium image to fix it.
    I ordered the factory disks too.
    With Macrium I'll probably never need them but I'll have them if I do.
    I had a brand new HP pavilion laptop here - As usual I bookmarked the HP Support page for the system. One of the links was "Order Recovery Media" - So after al of the trouble of entering the serial number of the laptop, it redirected back to the main HP page.
    Expect stuff like this when trying to acquire the actual physical disks.
