Explorer - Show File Extensions for All Users

HI. I want to setup my build to change reg key(s) so that each new user that logs on sees the file extensions in Windows Explorer

Checking this thread Show File Extensions and Hidden Files for all Users - Windows 7 Help Forums I hoped it would be a case of changing one key in HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\explorer\advanced\folder\hidefileext but I cannot get it to work for each new user

    Any advice ? - thanks

(PS - is it the same for Windows 7 and 8 or just 8 specific?)

Whatever setting is changed to allow that would have to be in the All Users "account" folder. That key is on HKLM, for it to work it would have to be in "HKEY_USERS" probably under ".DEFAULT"

Thanks. In actual fact its not the .default hive. I solved this by loading the default user hive ntuser.dat

    reg load HKLM\DefaultUser C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT
    $path = "HKLM:\Defaultuser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced"
New-ItemProperty -Path $path -Name HideFileExt -Value "0" -PropertyType DWord
    reg unload HKLM\DefaultUser

So this means each new profile has the correct registry key set under HKCU
