    Task Host

When I go to shut down a screen comes up Task host manager comes up, I then have to go down and click on shut down anyways. It just started for me with latest updates. Running Windows 8.1. Any suggestions?

Back off the updates is my best guess. Trying to go through them individually to find the culprit could take a long time. Perhaps after awhile someone will track down which update it was and you can side step it.

When you get updates, always do it manually and only choose what is appropriate for YOUR system. Also never download mroe than 10 updates at a time, if you do the full 100 plus updates at once, you'll be seeing that taskhost for ages to come. I never do the security downdates, because they all deal with "Remote Code Execution" and I have a better way of keeping people OUT of my Router by only allowing authorised MAC addresses in.

Good advice. I just sifted through a bunch of updates for my laptop. It takes a long time. Plus the WU UI ain't so great for keeping your place looking through the details. Needs a different UI entirely. Really time consuming.

The "More Info" or "Details" links pull up websites now, it used to pull up a small panel with some details. But if you pull up the Details now, at least it gives you more information on what the update is.

The thing is, always read ALL update details. don't just fluff through them. Never install an update unless you are convinced it will do some good. And look in here, sometimes a bad update, or one with issues will be discussed here.

I guess it was tedious because the Laptop is new. There was a ton of crap even after ignoring the security updates. Not a whole hell of a lot of information on the web pages. One I installed related to Explorer crashes when using Alt Tab. Well who wants Explorer to crash on Alt Tab? Not me. But chances are I didn't need the thing. C'est la vie.
