How to Disable Windows 8 Password?

I'd like to totally disable my Windows 8 password. I'm surprised there is even a password on the account because I thought it was already disabled.

Somehow, though, there appears to be another password on the account. For instance, when I restart Windows 8 I am prompted for a password. This computer just sits on my desk all day, in a pretty secure building; there is no threat of it being stolen.

    Hello Ryan,

If this is a work PC, then I would be more concerned about someone using your PC while signed in to your account. Anything they do on it would reflect on you since it was your account.

You could set Windows 8 to automatically sign in to your account at startup. See the yellow Tip box at the top of the tutorial below for other areas to help as well.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Type netplwiz into RUN & click ok.

    Hi there
also an easy way to do this

Either at RUN command or command line simply type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2.

You don't need to be in administrator mode / elevated command mode or fiddle around with the UAC levels (this method also works in W7).

    Cheers

    Cool Thanx Jimbo...

Does that setting actually release the restriction of having to have a passworded local account?

    It's the same as netplwiz.

Just a different command that pulls up the password window as in my screenshot.

    It works with any account.

Thanks everyone. For some reason the image that I posted didn't come through. I already unchecked the box that reads.

Users must enter a user name and password to use this
    computer

I still get prompted to enter a password. There must be another password prompt/control somewhere.

I tried the option that says 'To Turn On Automatic Sign in for a Local User Account or Microsoft Account'. I couldn't get that working. I never get the 'Automatically Log On' window to popup.

Ok, I just added it. I'm not sure how that's going to change anything, but I'll see what happens the next time I reboot.

    Thanks everyone!!
