Still working on it. Had some progress.

I will try to do the Command from the /windows/system32 prompt tomorrow.

I was doing it from C:

the log told me that it needed to stop, when i knew the restorehealth parameter was running.for about two minutes.

It would help if I could do this "online", because I only have one disk

    More tomorrow thanks

Got to the /windows/system32 prompt, but the command still errored out.

Its no wonder that people just wipe the disk and do a whole new install..or replace the disk..

I am an old PC tech so I would rather replace the disk, than get rid of all my "old" stuff. Low level format to wipe the disk with Hirens? Nah I would rather replace the disk if we cant get this figured out

Thanks guys for staying with me..

I think the online option doesn't work with the command prompt is because I only have one disk.
and the access to :c: with the image command errored out in the c: prompt in command prompt...

Thanks for your patience, guess today I will figure out how to copy the output in the command prompt to my USB stick, so I can post it like Z did.

Thanks X and Z and all you guys..patience is a virtue..

The /online switch cannot work when using an install disk, if the /image switch is not working, maybe there is a whole different syntax for doing it from the install disk. I'll have to look it up, but it should all be there in Shawn's Tutorial.

I'm sorry, it is more complicated than I thought - I assumed you could just use the switch in the basic command, you can't. My bad.

    Read here:

    DISM Image Management Command-Line Options

I don't know if Shawn's Tutorial goes into it like that, but you may be able to find the exact Syntax for the command on that page.

If it is easier to just plop your install disk in and do a fresh install, at least you can do that, you should be able to recover all of your personal files in the Windows Old folder.

If you can get into the desktop at all, you can do an In-Place Install like with Windows 7. If you an get into Safe Mode maybe you can disable what is preventing boot.

You can try the Bootrec /Scanos command from the Install disk, maybe that can repair your bad boot loader. Try Bootrec /Fixmbr then Bootrec /Scanos and the latter might repair the bad boot entry. Like the DISM command, you have to CD to the C:\Windows\System32 folder to run Bootrec.

Yes Z that is what i used when I first had partial success.

Im just about ready to get a new disk and build it fresh...The old disk has a few copies of old drives..and if I dont want to low level format the seagate... Well I would rather just buy a new one than throw away all that old data..

Get back with you guys tommorow or the next day and tell you what i am doing..
    Thanks for staying with me

Well I kinda gave up on repairing this PC with the Install disk..The program just doesn't want to run..

Here is my sitch and what I am going to do..in time

Windows 8.1 64 bit PC with one drive

I will replace the drive with an identical one.

Reload the software, antivirus, and get it all updated.

Keep checking back folks because when I have done this...,the results should be interesting

I expect that the old drive info saved in the new drive, is part of the problem..

So thank you so much for your time and I will have a solution...soon..

    Thanks again folks
