BIOS and PC Dissociative identity disorder

I think this is more a BIOS issue ...
My packard bell PC stucked during a reboot,
this happens when i leave a toshiba usb drive attached during the reboot cicle,
so i ctr-alt-canc without the usb drive attached and the OS wont boot
because the internal drive boot order is messed up...
i restored the correct order and the OS starts up.
BUT the boot process now display an ACER logo instead of packar-bell
the bios time is ok so i don't think is a battery problem

what is this? some sor of BIOS virus?, the machine became self-conscious and display
a dissociative disorder? can i trust this PC?

    tanks, Roy.

As far as I know the OEM Boot Logo comes from the UEFI BIOS. My desktop PC motherboards don't have UEFI and just show the regular Windows 8 Logo. My ASUS laptop with UEFI shows the ASUS Logo on the boot screen. Where the actual Logo image is stored I don't know. I just assumed it was in the BIOS but maybe its not. It looks like there may just be a ID string in the BIOS that tells Windows what Logo to use and yours got corrupted. What does the System Screen show, Windows Logo key + pause/break key. I don't think its the BIOS that's messed up, I think its a Windows issue. Its just a guess though as I don't know for sure how that Logo thing actually works.

How was 8.1 installed on the PC, upgrade or clean install? If clean install where did you get your install media? Does this PC have UEFI?

PACKARD BELL? How old IS that?

Packard Bell may have become E-Machines which is now Gateway which is Acer.

    Hence the Acer Logo.

Or, you used an cracktivator, to activate the system according to maker. I can't say any more than that, except ACER is at the top of the list. If this is the case, Delete that NOW and buy a liscence.

(Edit) the last branded Packard Bell I ever saw was a Pentium III computer, is that what you got?

I do believe 1 cheat is a fake UEFI BIOS. That thought had crossed my mind but wanted more info before passing judgment.

"Fake Bios" is exactly how one cheat called ODIN works, I'm thinking thats what he has.

Actually if Packard Bell did become Emachines, then they are actually all Acer now.

    Thanks all for the help,

I try to be more clear about the PC, it's
    running Windows 7 Home Premium

It's a "Packard Bell imedia i5511 IT" year 2010 this one below:

the bios now claims it'a an "Acer X5900",
the proof of license sticker reports "Acer Group"

    XweAponX:
All the software installed is genuine or open source/free
    i don't know what a "cractivator" is ..
if there is a "Fake Bios" that was put by the manufacturer
i did not, i like to trust what i'm using...

    alphanumeric:
i do not think there is UEFI in this PC it's quite old ...

anyway after discovering the "Acer group" proof of
license sticker this is what may have happened:

1 the crappy toshiba usb drive locked the reboot process,
reboot trigged by some windows 7 update

2 i tried to unlock the bootstrap pressing f12 which
should display "boot options" but the system didn't respond

3 powered down the system olding the power button

4 turned on the system, the acer logo came in
and had no OS disk error

5 ctr-alt-canc and in the bios the disk boot order was
messed up (restored to default i think) so i fixed it

6 the system now boots and works but i have an Acer X5900
    now, according to BIOS

so i think that point 1 2 3 trigged some sort of bios reset
not a very bad thing per se, but i want to be sure
it's not some sort of virus

    to experts ...

    Thanks,

    Roy

P.S. the crappy toshiba drive is a redired now.

OK, just for clarification, is it running Windows 7 or Windows 8? I originally thought it was 8 (Windows 8 Forum) but in your last post you say its running 7?
Also want to confirm which LOGO has changed. Is it the PC's BIOS POST splash screen LOGO, or the Windows Boot Screen LOGO, or something else?
    I'm confused?
