Brink; started up computer today with a raid array error. Defrag showed 14% fragmented but unable to repair. SFC says found corrupt files but unable to repair some of them. I can't open CBS.log it says access denied.

I ran Alienware Autoposy and it says my two hard drives are fine. Can you or someone tell me do I have bad hard drives or is this another corruption problem with Windows 8.1. I had this with Nvidia Geforce Experience and a corrupt user account. I reinstalled Windows 8.1 two weeks ago and it is painful. If it is 8.1 doing this I am not reinstalling it again. I will go with Windows 7. I simply don't get all these problems with 8.1 and I'm tired of it.

Ok thanks Brink. Had to zip the file as it is over 2 MB.

Option Three above wasn't for that It was to get a smaller sfcdetails.txt file instead that only contains the SFC details instead of the full CBS.log. ;)

Anyways, looking it show that it was the Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB file for your Microsoft-Windows-Printer-Drivers-Package that couldn't be repaired.

If you use another printer driver, then I wouldn't worry about it. If this is the one you use, then reinstalling the printer's driver should sort it for you. :)

Brink; I uninstalled and reinstalled my HP software/drivers and I'm still getting the errors and can't defrag. Is it maybe the Microsoft document writer causing the problem or send to one note???

The SFC results you got are nothing to worry about. If you wanted to try and fix the system files, then you could continue to do what's in the blue Note box at the end of step 3 in OPTION TWO below. Most likely will need to use the DISM command option.
You might see if you could use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to defrag the drive at boot (step 3) instead in case it may be an in use type error.

I ran this:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Got excited when it said completed successfully and corruption fixed (the store?) but still have all the raid errors and can't defrag. I'll see if I can fix it with that defrag at boot option.

Really appreciate your help, Brink. If that doesn't work guess I'll never be able to run a defrag again without a "PC Refresh" and that will be a Windows 7 refresh. I never had any kind of problems like this with Windows 7 or 8, just the dreaded 8.1 with network adaptor issues and everything else. I don't consider going back to 8 an option as I doubt the support on pre upgrades (8.0) will last long. I laughed at Dell when the told me I had to keep Windows 7 (for support). Guess they had their reasons.

Dism is to fix the "component store". Did you run SFC again afterwards?

This will not help with defrag though. For that, you might see if running defrag at boot instead may allow it to finished.

Brink; diskpart is fine so is list volumes and then I exit to windows/system32 directory. My C drive is listed as drive d or volume 2. When I type defrag d: /o it says defrag is not a recognized as a command. I forget my DOS days to list the commands. What am I doing wrong at the bootup command prompt?

It invokes defrag and then says the parameter is incorrect. 0x80070057. I love those messages.

I used defrag c: /d

If this is a HDD and not a SSD, then as a test see if the program Auslogics Disk Defrag Free is able to successfully defrag it.

I just noticed that defrag.exe won't run in Windows, normal or as admin. I have to go to "defrag and optimize your drives" and do it from there, where it fails.

I saw on the Microsoft community some others having this problem but didn't see answers. I also saw this on dslreports.com which is the same error I got but again no solution was given. Don't understand what they changed in 8.1. Sure is more than a start button. I had the corrupt user account for Nvidia Geforce experience, and reinstalled 8.1. I had the network controller disconnecting but found one driver that works. I had the mouse lag issues in games but the Microsoft fix works to some degree. Now I have this problem with corrupt files again or whatever it is and defrag. And if Brink can't fix it without a reinstall no one can. I have zero faith in those generic responses coming out of the Windows 8.1 Microsoft Community. I'm close to packing it in for good - Windows 7.

[h=4]Yet another Windows 8.1 problem - Defrag[/h] The volume (C:) was not optimized because an error was encountered: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

What is causing this issue? I'm using a regular hard drive, not SSD.

It really feels like Windows 8.1 is LOADED with bugs.

It's a HDD. Auslogics is running. Started off showing 14% fragmented which Windows showed. Now it's down to 6%. LOL What's going on?

That's normal. It counts down from the percentage of how much the HDD is defragmented.

Well according to Auslogics my drives are now optimized. Windows was showing them as 14% fragmented and now shows them as 6% fragmented and "OK". I still can't run the Windows defrag.exe and from "defrag and optimize" it starts and finishes with the same defrag percent. No error message or solution of course.

Thanks Brink for the third party savoir. Don't know how to get Windows 8.1 defrag working again.
