Windows Explorer has loads of network things under "ThisPC

Hi
I've just jumped to Win8.1 from 7 and am trying to work out how to unclutter my windows explorer navigation pane.

The bit in question is the "This PC" - it used to just have my c:drive and other network drives, but now it has all these other network devices (security cameras, and sonos amps etc) plus also Desktop, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos folders (which are sort of duplicated under favourites).

Is there a setting somewhere to not show all these extra items, and just go back to showing my C:drive and mapped network drives?

Thanks loads for any help,
Far

If you sort your Explorer items by Group, you will be able to hide the things you don't want to see, just came across this in another post, there is an Arrow on the left side of the screen:

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Awesome - thanks Shawn, that's cleared up the microsoft based ones. I'm surprised that only regeditting can change this. (And sorry I missed that tute, I had gone looking through the tutorials section but missed it).

Do you know of any way I can get rid of the remaining network devices that also appear in the same area?
I can see a subfolder under:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\
called DelegateFolders, but the number of keys in it (4) is less than the number of network thingo's in explorer (5).

I think the network devices are just ones that have some sort of streaming capability or possibly media server sort of thing (as the NAS/router etc don't show), just POE cams and Music playing amps (sonos ones).

Just saw your response XweAponX but I think if I hide "network locations" then I would also hide my mapped network drives? All the funny little media boxes are above the C:, and all the mapped network drives are below C:

But they are all clumped together (both the media boxes and mapped drives) when you just open explorer on the right hand pane (all under network locations).

Forgive me for jumping in here, but my offering...
instead of regediting ...

Why not simply Pin to Start what you would like and
untick or turn off the navigation pane  ... just a thought

For a drive ( C )

Yah that's the problem, no good way around that. I actually use all of the mapped servers and stuff though. I have a Plex server and the WMP server I connect to with my phone.

Never use it

I know. 50% of the OS is not used by disabling the edges and the modern user interface.
One thing for sure, WinRT a.k.a. tifkam,
is here to stay at least until the end of support cycle ... up to 2023 +

And when I find a way to get rid of it in 8,1 I'll do that as well. Since ex7forW8 uses Windows 7 explorer, I'll try sticking Windows 8's explorer into 8,1.

I wish I had known about ex7forW8 sooner, it would have saved me a lot of trouble, But there are still lots of Mods I havent tried yet

Why not just use Windows 7.

Sorry, :( I'll just say good night to you out there in California.
I'm just south of Boston. Good Luck. :geek:
