    Phantom window?

This is difficult to explain, but when I am working on my computer, regardless of where or what activity, the screen that I am on will become inactive as though I opened another window and the current window is in the background. It does this about every 30 seconds or so. The area around the current screen becomes gray, just as it would if I'd opened a new window or link, but there is nothing present. As soon as I right/left click my mouse, the screen I'm working on becomes active again, just like it would if I'd moved from one screen to another by clicking on the screen I wanted. Does anyone know what's going on, because it is driving me batty. It has done it four times just writing this post.

I would start with a scan using Malwarebytes antimalware. It sounds like you might have a focus stealing malware on your system. It could also be a legitimate utility that watches for the active window that has a bug. But I'd try the Malware scan first.

I have the losing focus issue too.

I just googled it & some said to update Flash Player to stop it.

    I went here:

Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave Player

    & updated Shockwave & Flash.

Both of mine were out of date.
If you choose to update read the update process to avoid installing unwanted programs.

I will post back after a while to say if this updating solved the problem.

I have this happen when I am updating by Bank Account in Quicken, but it is very rapid. It's like other windows are wanting to open on top of the One Click Update window.

I think it has to do with Cloud Compuking, my Quicken Account is saved in Quicken Cloud, and this kind of stuff always happens when I am accessing stuff like Skydrive or Googol Drive.

I've been getting phantom taskbar icons using the generic folder or application icons. They have no name and a zero-height preview window when I mouse over them, but just about any interaction with Windows silently removes the icon. What's going on?
