    Upgrade to 8.1?

    Good morning
I'm still undecided if upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.
Windows 8 works well for me.
    What is your opinion?
Are there reasons for migrating to 8.1?
    Thank you!

Hello Carlo, and welcome to Eight Forums.

That's more of a personal choice, but you could look at the links below to compare and review the new features in Windows 8.1 to see if it may help your decision.

    Personally, I think it's worth updating/upgrading to Windows 8.1.

    Compare Windows 8.1 Editions

The only problem I am having with 8.1 is my third monitor seems to be in a 1440 x 900 mode instead of 1920 x 1080 which is very annoying. Other then that all is good. (. . .and yes I have up dated all drivers).

For some the update from 8 to 8.1 has been good, but for others it's been a nightmare of problems. It's just a crap shoot as to what someone gets on their computer. One item I have found is some programs will need their drivers updated after the upgrade.

Why not just make a backup image first and then install 8.1 and try it out for a bit. No like? RESTORE the image.
My upgrade went on flawlessly and am glad I upgraded even though the new features are not really used by me.

I would recommend that anyone wanting to upgrade to 8.1 check with there manufactures websites for updated drivers and have them downloaded prior to attempting the upgrade. For me it was just a wireless driver and a audio drivers. The only issues I found was trying to track down all those default programs opening metro apps, and changing them all to open my desktop programs. I have all the metro crap turned off, lock screen turn off, and boot to log in and my desktop. Just a better win 7 for me

For many of us, it might be more of "can I afford it" than "do I really need it".

If it's just for fun, and you CAN afford it, then by all means it can be fun, to try something new.
But PLEASE, do as was suggested and back up your Win-8.0 install to a removable media, before installing 8.1.

Win 8.1 is not just an's a NEW OS. Think of it more like Windows 9 or something.

It has some serious changes to the Core code, and won't install or run on some PC's that ran 8.0 successfully.
I've already run into that coincidink here on a PC of my own. Thank goodness, I had 8.0/64 backed up.

    Good Luck!

Microsoft originally announced they would only support 8.0 (monthly updates/fixes) for a year after 8.1 was released, but I believe that time has been extended into 2015 now.

    Hi all
THANK YOU very much for your replies! I love eightforums

    You all have right.

I'm a web developer, my machine is enough powerful (AMD 64 bit, 6 cores, 16 GB memory) for my needs. I often open lot of huge programs at same time (Aptana, SmartFTP, lot of Fw tabs, for example) and Windows 8 works well.

I have read a lot about Windows 8.1 features, but I not found a single feature that I really need.

Now, my question is: Win8.1 has features that I miss in Windows8? Software developers will support Win8 in the future?

Win8 can be considered just a bridge, temporary OS between WinXP and Win8.1?

Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center

Windows 8 is supported for 2 years from October 18 2013, now that 8.1 is on General Availability.

Microsoft is rapidly removing most references to Windows 8 and replacing them with 8.1 on web pages that are not specifically about upgrading.

If you can upgrade, it is advisable. If you cannot, Windows 8 will continue to receive updates for 2 years.
