    Licensing Win 8

My copy of Win 8.1 is completely ligit and legal.

BUT, does my computer still "phone home" every so often just to check?? If so, how often?

I'd assume if it does phone home and I'm not on the internet for an extended period, my copy might quit working even though is IS completely legitimate??

It would only stop working if it was a time-bombed evaluation version. I had that happen with a Windows XP 64 bit Trial version, it bombed out after 120 days. Windows 8.1 probably has a more sophisticated "Time-Bomb", the one in XP was pretty simple. You can check your activation by opening a Command Prompt and typing

    SLMGR.vbs /xpr

And if it says "This Machine is permanently activated" then you don't have to worry, it will stay activated until a truck drives over your PC.
