Problem with security.

I have a file I'm trying to move into a subdirectory under program files/windows apps.

I get an error that I don't have permissions.

So, I take ownership of the entire program files directory and all subdirectories and files under it.

So, now I am the owner of the whole directory, but I still can't move/copy the file into.

I am also the owner of the source file; and of course I'm logged under the same name as the owner.

Ideas??

Boowho??

Under 8.1 some of the folders in Program Files are basically locked solid.

You can try to use Unlocker to move the file in there, they have it at Major Geeks. Be careful with the installer, it will try to install a virus called Babylon, use "Advanced Installation" and uncheck all check boxes for a "Delta Toolbar" don't let that in.

Download Unlocker - MajorGeeks

The Unlocker program itself is clean. I've used it to move files around in there under Windows 8, but 8.1 is even more paranoidly locked down.

Thanks for the info. I'll bet SOMEWHERE there is a "back door" trick to allow bypassing of that (IMHO) stupid idea. A superuser should always be a superuser.

And a special thanks for the heads up on the Unlocker installer. That sort of crap is becoming more and more prevalent; even legitimate downloads from trusted sources will many times install extra stuff without asking if you want it first.

Boowho??

EDIT: No joy with unlocker. It basically crashes when I select the "move" option. fault in shell32.dll
