Mysterious Search Text in Windows 8.1 Start Screen

    I've never seen this.
I just booted my computer up this morning and was in the start screen The moment I went to move the mouse to select and item, the search bar on the right side opened with search results for Command Prompt.
Now, I know I'm getting old but I did not type that.

    Any ideas?
    James

Do you remember exactly what the search text was?

It could be a Virus, I've seen this kind of thing happen. Reboot your System and see if it does it again, if it does, copy the text from the Search Box exactly how it is inserted.

Then Open Regedit and paste the text into that, hit "Find" see if it shows up ion the registry. If the search text shows up, you may also find other pre-defined searches, if you do, export 5the reg key and then delete em, and post what you find here... "Programs" that would do this are "Baylon" - That's one of them, there are others.

So far it has only occurred that one time.
This happened on a restored image. The first thing I do after restoring the image is to sun a virus scan with 3 separate anti-virus scanners. So i', not quite sure how this got infected.
Anyway, I'm wondering if my system got high jacked?
I really have no idea how this could happen and what the consequences could be.
    If it happens again
    I'll follow your instructions.

The Search may have been entered but never conducted before the Restore Image was made.

Did it appear to be a valid Search, as in one that you would normally enter?

    No.
    I wouldn't search "Command Prompt"
I have the tile in the start screen.

OK, so it was searching Programs and Apps, not for Internet stuff?

If it is not repeating each time you boot, I'll assume that it was a Program or File search you had typed in there just prior to making the backup, and it transferred over.

A Search Windows that starts all by itself each time you boot, is most likely Virus Activity.

It hasn't happened since that one time.
After restoring the image the first thing I do is scan for viruses with b3 different programs.
    None were found.
I very well may have typed that in without remembering.
I am 48. My mind could be going.

    Thanks,
    James
