Windows 8 Freeze when using Pro Tools 10

    Hi!

I've had my windows 8 computer for audio production for about 3 months, as has been reasonably stable. However, lately, it just will seize when using Pro Tools 10, and the only solution is to restart. I've looked through the event log, and nothing particularly stands out, apart from the obvious unexpected shutdowns. I solved it previously by system restoring, but Windows being Windows has removed the restore point that I used last time, and so now I'm at a bit of a loss. Any ideas or suggestions? Will upload event logs if they are helpful!

Thank you in advance for your time!

Pro Tools constantly crashes and seizes. Have you tried to install any Plugins?

You should be able to pull up your Application Event Logs and see if it says anything about Pro Toosl crashing. Maybe your iLok device was not plugged in, or the driver got corrupted.

If you don't have the last restore point, can you get to one from before?

Anyway I am probably the only one here who uses Pro Tools and my expertise only goes up to 8.

I remember with 8 there was a fix for this, by deleting the Saved Preferences. I don't have PT 8 installed here, so I can't look for the right Folder. It is in your Appdata Folder, look for Pro Tools in there, and find a folder that holds preferences.

Copy that folder out, and then delete the contents.

It's a folder that holds all of the Preferences set for Plugins, thats what causes the freeze, something in there is no longer viable.

Did you buy the system from Sweetwater? If yo did, call the Techs there, they will know all about it.

If you didn't buy it from Sweetwater, go to the Digidesign part of the Avid site, there should be forums there.

That's the official Avid forum, if what I said about the Prefs file does not work, post your questions there, they usually jump on it

    Windows 8 Freeze

Thanks very much for your reply. I will follow up those possibilities you listed! It is strange that the entire operating system freezes, can't bring up the task manager, and eventually I get a BSOD with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

Is your Digi 003 plugged in when you are starting the program? make sure the Firewire port is not powered down, with Pro Tools you MUST shut off all normal Sleep modes for Windows.

I should have an email with the exact path you need to delete, but it is years old, I have to look it up.

Ok I found the email- it's "trash databases and preferences" - the process for PT 10 should be the same for 8 which is what I was using back then. They sent me to a video, I'll try to edit this later, I'm posting on my iPhone app:
