I really don't care for this graphical drop down menu bar in Win8.1. Is it possible to get the old menu bar back? Thanks.

StartisBack or ex7forWin8, the latter can totally remove Metro (Start Screen). Startisback is actually pretty decent and free for single use

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I'll give them a try. There's always been this issue since Vista of icons in a folder being displayed in "list" format. Even when you selected small or large icons, the setting never lasted. Was that ever resolved? It was never a problem in WinXP.

Jacatone,

So far I haven't had any issues with Windows 8/8.1 remembering the view settings of a folder as they were when last closed from the same location it was opened from.

+1 for classic shell it is my go to software for getting rid of metro. also for the view problem try setting your view then closing that window not just clicking back and then windows should remember it.

Obviously, the advice in the thread is of interest to you. But, in your op, do you mean the drop down bar in the file manager? I cannot quite relate to any other "drop down" menu bar in Windows 8/8.1

Hey David,

He just means the old menu bar like below in Windows Explorer from Vista and Windows 7. :)

Doesnt he have those? I have them in Windows 8, are they missing in 8.1?

I use Classic Shell in conjunction with Start8 and ex7forW8, to get my breadcrumbs gone.

? Which. My link? No That is a third party program with a file explorer which could be customised a little more. It was useful in earlier OSs but , imo, has lost its main advantages.
Truth is, I am still not100% clear what it is the OP is missing!
