Win8 Search Won't Search Control Panel Items

    Hi all,

I'm a pretty proficient Windows user (and Google-searcher) but I can't seem to solve this one:

Windows 8 search refuses to search items in my control panel. For example, if I tap the windows key and type "power options" or "Sound" I get nothing. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to work as it's mentioned in many of Microsoft's own help documents as the easiest way to navigate to these settings.

Other searches are working, including files on secondary drives, etc.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I get that Classic Shell would fix the problem, but is this something that Windows should do on its own? Are others able to see these items in search? I'm just wondering if there's an issue with my windows installation.

I don't know, as I am unwilling to uninstall Classic Shell just to test this.

However if you press Winkey + s you get a Charms search.
    It works pretty good.

Someone else will have to assist you, who has the same setup as you.

I assume that you are running Windows 8, not 8.1
    Did you select Settings ?

I'm running 8.1. My search doesn't look like any of these. Here's a screenshot of what I get: Click image for larger version

This might have something to do with Windows 8 Core (Standard) version. Some of the features are not included with Core version. Maybe someone running core version can verify this.

Hmm, I don't think so. I'm running core because I got a free copy.

Per Wikipedia, better search isn't one of the stated benefits of Pro:

Windows 8 Pro is comparable to Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate[4][5] and is targeted towards enthusiasts and business users; it includes all the features of Windows 8. Additional features include the ability to receive Remote Desktop connections, the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain, Encrypting File System, Hyper-V, and Virtual Hard Disk Booting, Group Policy as well as BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. Windows Media Center functionality will be available only for Windows 8 Pro as a separate software package

I always search from right within Control Panel and the result pops up instantly
