Guys I have a strange problem.Every time i turn on my laptop, my password field is automatically filled with asterisks(*****).Not just few asterisks but the entire password field is covered till no more character is allowed.I have to press and hold backspace key for some time to empty it.The Laptop is Sony Vaio Windows 8 and works just fine apart from this.Yeah, sometimes it automatically fills those asterisks if i click on empty field, for example search field in "my computer".I scaned the Laptop with Avira and Malware Bytes but they found nothing.I even tried "System Restore" but the problem is still there. The Problem appeared suddenly out of nowhere.I didnt install anything and i havent even connected it to the internet.Help me out friends.

Yeah, sometimes it automatically fills those asterisks if i click on empty field, for example search field in "my computer".

Does it ever happen in other applications like Word for example? Sounds a bit like you may have a sticky key and it is filling the buffer. Perhaps...

In other places (not the password field) do you still get * or do you get a different letter or letters?

Have you tried running sfc /scannow ?

Or

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Both need to be run in administrator command prompt.
Reboot after dism.

They are asterisks (****).when they appear in other applications they are clearly visible as asterisks but in password field they appear as hidden black dots.

When you run sfc it might find problems it cannot fix.
That is why you run dism.

It fixes things sfc cannot fix. :)

Could be as simple as a sticky * key or a small short in the keyboard circuitry , do you have another keyboard you could try switching out and then seeing if the problem re-occurs.

In additional to all previous suggestions, (wild guess) any chance you are using a 3rd-party password manager that is somehow set to run at startup?

The reason I asked him to try another keyboard is...it happens in other applications randomly ....not just when passwords are required...

yeah it sounds like his keyboard is shorting, or has a key stuck.

I hope you are all correct in the assumption that his keyboard is defective; however, I'm wondering why it only happens when he needs to insert a password (or did I miss something else)? Form my experience, the keyboard is basically a dumb device so it would be a real coincidence if he uses other things that require keyboard strokes and it never happens there. Things like editing a text file or even responding to this thread, like I am dong right now, should provide enough keyboard "bounce" to trigger a sticky key. And remember, this happens when he has never yet touched the keyboard. Although I hope too that it is his keyboard, I have my doubts.
