The popup thumbnails of the open applications that jump up when you accidentally touch the Taskbar drive me crazy. Is it possible to suppress them?

Hello Jim, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could use one of the options in the tutorial below to disable taskbar thumbnail previews.

Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks for the thought, but . . .

I tried Method One and there's no Disable Thumbnail check box in 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. See screenshot below.

I also tried Method Two. I used the registry edit utility. I don't know what it did but it didn't prevent the thumbnails from popping up.

Option Three appears to be a manual version of Option Two.

So when the first three options didn't work I gave up.

Your specs indicate you are running Windows 8.0. Is that correct?

You didn't mention in your initial post that you were using the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, that might impact the function of the steps in the tutorial. I did notice in your screenshot of the app that there is a section called "hovering", I would choose the "nothing"option under that section and see if it accomplishes what you want.

Brink updated the instructions for 7+ and it seems to be working now.

I had uninstalled 7+ before trying the registry method.

Sad to say, the popups haven't stopped after all. Either I was testing on pinned apps instead of open ones or rebooting erased the fix.

Sorry to hear that Jim. How about the other options?

I've tried options 1, 2 & 4. I didn't understand how to do option 3 in Win8. Themes are strange in 8. I don't know what Aero themes are but none are called that. There are very few themes to choose and the classic theme I've used for years, Rainy Day, is no longer available and in surfing the net I can't find a duplicate that works in 8. The ones I've found that claim to be reproductions don't look and work the same.

I suspect they have changed something in 8 that doesn't support the older themes.

I've tried the Visual Effects setting and all the registry entries. The thumbnail previews still show up on a hover, even after a restart. Anything else to try? Windows 8.1.

1. I did not try Taskbar Tweaker.
2. I did add the new NumThumbnails = 0 in CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband.
3. I did not change the theme as I hate the limited selection of high contrast themes in Windows 8.1.
4. I tried extending the delay time and that worked, but I would really like the list on hover, just not the previews.
5. I tried putting TaskbarNoThumbnails = 0 in CurrentVersion\Explorer, CurrentVersion\Policies, and CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
6. I tried turning off the Animations in the Taskbar in Visual Effects.

Any ideas?
