Windows 8.1 Pro failed to boot !

Hi,

I have a 'HP Envy m6-1158ca Notebook PC' running Windows 8 Pro and everything was good until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro.

Immediately after that, it failed to recognize my second monitor (HP Pavilion 23fi 23-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor). I restarted several times assuming OS should recognize that. Device Manager did not show any driver for that new monitor.

Did a hardware troubleshooting and it found some errors. I rebooted the PC and now NOTHING SHOWS UP IN THE SCREEN. JUST A BLANK SCREEN!

After spending hours, I could not do anything. Finally with the help of HP customer support, I was able to access HP recovery mode (F11) and went back to default OS (Windows 8). Lost my data (was not able to backup a lot) and now having all other issues! By the way, F8 or Shift+F8 did not help me to boot in safe mode.

Now every time I restart, it takes forever and randomly removes different drivers (audio etc.)! I now have two OS (Windows 8 and a recovery OS) and don't know how to remove that!

My question is what could happen when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro? Everything was great before that upgrade.

I am a long time Windows user and seems this 8.1 is the worst!

I am really frustrated with this.

Thanks,
Sur

Have you tried another System Reset ? PC Settings/General/Reset or Refresh

Have you checked your disk by using the Free Disk Space utility in the Control Panel ? The Clean System Files will eliminate any old Windows installations.

Your original problem may have been a driver issue/s. Check the HP site or contact HP support for info on upgrading to 8.1. Also, google the problem. Other good info out there from other forums.

I initially had BitLocker enabled. Now even though BitLocker is not enabled, whenever I try to do a reset/refresh, it asks for recovery key and fails. Not sure if that recovery key is for anything else (if not BitLocker).

Try going into the BIOS again. There is a recovery option that should not require a key.

Thank you guys.
After a final Reset, all seems alright now. Everything went back to Windows 8 and then I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.. seems good now.. However, I am not going for 8.1 or even suggesting anyone I know.
