Hey guys,

I just did the stupidest thing. While updating my computer i accidentally left the charger out. So it shut down towards the end of the update and now when i restart my computer i'll only the see the HP start-up/loading screen and then the screen just turns black and all i see is my cursor. I didn't get any Windows installation cd with my computer and now i have absolutely no idea what to do. Help?!

You probably have an imagine partition as part of your main HDD. To access this you will have to press whatever key your system has indicated as the restore key. If you are unable to determine what key that is then see if you can get a hold of a copy of windows 8 DVD and use that to restore your computer. If you need further help just come back to this thread and either myself or a great deal of others will be glad to help you.

BTW Welcome to the Eight Fourms. . .

Thanks for your answer Lee. Any idea what the default restore key is? I tried mashing F8, but that doesn't seem to do anything. And if i get a copy of a Windows 8 DVD, does it need to be brand new or can i also use a used copy?

in most cases holding down the "ESC Key will bring up a menu that shows you what to do. . .Knock on wood. . .:D

Thanks i got in, nut now whatver option to restore my computer i choose nothing helps. It says either a required drive partition is missing or the drive is locked. Also when i need to choose a target operating system i can only choose windows 8.1. And since that's the reason my computer isn't working i think that's the problem...

Edit: rebooted it and for some reason i now can reset the whole computer. It's restoring as we speak. Let's hope for the best! Again, thank you very much for your help!

If you have or can get access to a Windows 8 DVD, insert it into the drive, shut down, then reboot. Once the reboot is accomplished, follow the instructions until you see "Repair my/your PC/Computer". Hopefully, that will take things back to Windows 8.

there is a way, which may help.
i.e. try switching off your pc or laptop through the mains or power button directly, for maybe 10 to 15 times.
it will automatically boot into advanced options

I don't know what else to do :(

I have tried everything that I know of....I fought and fought to get into the boot menu (F8) finally did it & tried to boot into safe mode. Still didn't work. I have tried taking the battery out & holding down the power button for 30 secs like people suggested. Still didn't work. It keeps telling me I need to install windows. It does not acknowledge that it was ever on there. My system didn't come with a repair disk or a windows installation disk & the prices of those are ridiculous, so I don't know what else to do. Freaking out! My mother has NO idea of where any of her info is, she doesn't even know what email or user name she signed up with :( GRRRRRRRrrrrrrr..... ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!!! Is there anything that can be done?

You might have to reinstall windows 8. How did you install it? Or did it come pre-installed. If it came pre-installed, access the bios menu, and their should be an option to reset your pc to factory edition(when it left the factory).
