Where and What is an ISO of Win 8 Win Freeze on Re - Boot

Hi I have a few questions it’s about Booting up and Creating a Boot -able Flash Drive (Sans-disc 16 Gig Fat32)
I had an issue this morning the PC is only 3 month’ old a Dell Inspiron 660.
I have noticed a couple of times in the morning’s Maybe when its trying to install Updates ) or MC Vee runs’ that it does some funny things. This morning the computer “Locked up” and I had to ‘Re Start it but it would not go past the Black Screed Dell Logo. I pushed all the buttons Windows, F2, F8, F10, for Safe Mode but nothing and I haven't got a Win8 Disc. Win8 was Pre-installed? I have the Product Key but That's another Problem as well.
It took me all day to manage to start the PC and I am not game to turn it off until we can see whats up. I have since Run MWMbs and McVee on Scan’ nothing’ so I decided to create a ‘Boot-able USB flash drive’ but the problem is how and where do I download the Windows 8 ISO and do I download Windows 8.1 or just 8?

I found MS win 8 update site and tried to Download the Win 8 64 version I don’t know if it was the ISO but when I went to add my Windows Product Key it said Dasha will log in Auto (see JPEG) Attach for that and when I tried to clear the ‘box’ and use my product key’ it would not accept my Product Key that I entered??

So I need some info about the Lock up and No Boot if I can please?

1 ) Do I update My PC and the The Re-Boot able USB stick with Windows 8.1
    or Just 8

    2) Where do I find an ISO of win8 to download to save and install using The Rufus App what doe it look like how do I download it cheers Dasha

PC is 3 month old and a Dell Inspiron 660, Win8, I have MWMB’s and Mc Vee anti Scheduled weekly CCleaner Weekly

I think you mean an ISO (instead of ICO). You can download the Win 8.1 ISO by following this procedure:

    https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ad-create.html

Follow the tip at the end of the tutorial for instructions on how to get that ISO onto a USB drive or DVD.

Once done, you will need to do a clean install using a special key for the 8.1 installation. This key works for Windows 8.1 Pro (see post #16):

How to download the Windows 8.1 ISO

Now, after you have successfully done a clean install, you must now use your Windows 8 Pro key to activate the installation as a legitimate upgrade to 8.1 Pro:

Hope all this detail helps you. Good luck.

Dasha, you might want to edit your screen shot and black out you Product code. If that is your product code you don't want the whole world knowing it.
If you are trying to download the ISO via https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ad-create.html , I've heard that OEM keys will not work. If you retrieved your embedded code from your BIOS it will not work for that download. You have to enter a Retail Key to actually download the setup files and create the ISO. Windows 8 keys won't work for installation either but you can activate with your 8 code. Microsoft, for some reason, are making it tough for anybody with an OEM install of 8 to actually get an ISO.

Thanks for that reminder. Sometimes I just get caught in the moment. So are you saying my suggestion will not work because that is exactly how I did my 8.1 clean install? Once again but being brief this time:

    Downloaded Windows 8,.1 ISO
    Burned to USB and DVD
    Started install.
    Was prompted for a key.
Used the generic key for the downloaded Win 8.1 to start the installation.
    Installation completed.
    Clicked the activate Windows link.
This time, entered my Win 8.0 Pro key.
    Activation completed.

    Again, thanks for that tip.

I was referring to Dasha's post. There is a product key shown in the second image posted.

From what I've read in the other thread, when doing the actual download, if you enter an OEM key its rejected. The embedded OEM keys won't let you download the install files to make the ISO. Only retail keys are excepted. Now as far as actually installing 8.1, I think you can use an OEM key. I'd have to read though the whole thread again to be sure. Retail Windows 8 keys will work the way you mentioned though. Install with the generic Windows 8.1 install key and then activate with your Windows 8 key. I've done that on my desktop doing a clean install of 8.1 RTM.

No Problem, I didn't want to quote it as that would have copied the screen shot with the product code in it. As far as I know the Product ID shown on the system page can't be used to figure out your actual product code. A lot of people blank it out anyway. All it will tell you is if your installed OS is OEM or Retail and if its VL or not. Stuff like that. In the old days of Windows XP and earlier it would actually be your product code. At some pint Microsoft figured out that that probably wasn't a good idea and changed it.
