    Windows 8.1 Event Log Errors

I recently upgraded to W8.1 from W8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for W8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now! But...I'm left with two Log Entries that I need help understanding and identifying how to fix.

The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of W8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the W8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason W8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?

The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?

Help is needed! I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.

Windows 8.1 doesn't defrag the SSD but runs TRIM (they call it Optimize) instead. It seems to have an issue reporting on the System Reserved partition though. Since not much changes in the System reserved partition and the SSD performs its own garbage collection anyway, I just set the defragmenter/optimizer to not optimize the System Reserved partition. No further errors.

For the 10016, from what I have seen, there is no simple straight foreword fix.
I don't believe you have done anything to cause the error, I had the same error on three upgrades to 8.1.

Edit: I have read that there may be a bug that does cause the system to defragment the SSD under certain circumstances, so for the time being, I have changed the Optimizer to not schedule the SSD.

    pbcopter,
See attached screen shot - I don't know what else to turn off to stop the Defrag Log Errors. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? All of the partitions are set to Off.

You are still getting the errors after tuning off optimization completely? I just turn off optimization for the SSD.

You are probably correct. I must have had a senior moment and forgot when I turned it off. I have not seen the Event Error in several hours. We'll see in a day or so before I call it a victory! I appreciate the help. Now, for the pesky DistributedCOM 10016 Event Log Error!!!

    pbcopter,

I stumbled into that thread a couple of days ago and wanted to make sure I had a good Acronis TI 2013 backup before I played with all those settings. Then, I found out that TI 2013 was not backing up Window 8.1 correctly! I now have TI 2014 installed and it is supposed to be OK for W8.1. As soon as I prove to myself that I'm backed up properly I'll try making the changes suggested in that thread. I'm really glad I jumped into W8.1 from W8.0 and got to uncover a bunch of minor problems to work on.

I have performed those changes on three Windows 8.1 systems with no issues.

    pbcopter,
Well, I have failed. I go through the procedure and all is well until I get to step 12. When I select the Security Tab there is no Dot in the User Default or Customize circles and the Edit Box(s) are grayed out. I have gone through Steps 1-11 a couple of times and I don't think I missed anything. Oh well, the system still runs and I still get the DistributedCom Error 4 or 5 minutes after I re-boot!

    pbcopter,

You might want to look at the thread Numerous event id 10016 errors win 8 pro 64 bit again. Sayjimwoo took the time to give me a procedure and told me how to fix "my" 10060 error. He also explained why the "other" procedure did not work.
