To make it clear. I do know how to run a program with elevated privilege. I was explaining that programs won't start with elevated privilege but will start without. Atm, I am presuming this is because I'm operating over an RDP connection. If that is the case - I'll find out later when I get to hook my keyboard up to the pc - I'll then need to understand how I can configure the OS to give me full access over RDP.

BTW, apologies in advance if I come across a little narked about this. I am still digesting the nonsensical accusation of David "Stranger in a Strange Land" Bailey. He must live in a very very strange land indeed...

    Regards,
    David

Go into the windows system 32 folder.... scroll to cmd.exe. Right click on it and select "run as administrator".

That works! So why is it failing otherwise?

    it worked for me

I just started having this issue as well. Going to the system32 folder and running the exe as administrator works fine, as does the taskmgr suggestion

But right-clicking the command entry from the start display does not.

It was asked before but no reply – any idea what is causing the issue?

I right clicked mine & there was no option to Run as administrator.

You can type cmd into search & right click---

or right click the Windows start button & choose it---

I just created a new shortcut & in properties I clicked on advanced & checked the box to run as administrator & then pinned the shortcut to my taskbar.

Also in All Apps search box type in cmd & right click the result & press the space bar---

    Bye bye.

I tried some of this already

If I right-click “command prompt” and select “run as administrator” nothing happens

If I select “cmd run as administrator” I go to another window.

When selected a non-admin CMD screen pops up

I did not try your shortcut solution. When I searched I found multiple CMD applications

cannot run CMD in admin mode - found a fix

I also could not create a new folder using the "new folder" icon. I searched the net, found the below item in a different forum, and deleting the add-on fixed both problems
    = = = =
I had a similar problem that affected Windows 7 and Windows 8 after upgrading to 8. The New Folder icon in the ribbon did not function, but I could always right-click and create a new folder. Also, if I went through the Libraries to access a folder, the New Folder icon did function.

I gave up trying to find a solution online, so I "refreshed" my OS and got back to basic Windows 8. The New File icon then did function. One by one, I installed my applications, and checked for the issue after each installation. Voila! The culprit turned out to be a backup application called Memeo Backup. This backup utility came with a Seagate external hard drive.

The actual file causing the problem was the LifeAgent Explorer extension that Memeo installs. All I did was uninstall the Life Agent extension and Memeo continues to function without it. Since Memeo integrates itself with Windows Explorer menus, I'm guessing that it is this interaction that causes the New Folder icon to stop functioning.
