    Questions about 8.1 License

    Hey guys.

Can anyone tell me if the windows 8.1 upgrade is a free upgrade or a standalone release?

I see everywhere that it's advertised as "free for six months"; what does that mean exactly?

Will they begin charging for it after six months?; Will 8.0 users be unable to upgrade for free after six months?

Also, is it officially released as of this moment or is the release pending?

Thanks for helping with these questions.

I've searched and was unable to find a clear answer.

    Thanks again.

    Hello Doubts,

    Q1) Both.

Q2) I haven't seen this "free for six months". Could you post a link to something official for this to see what it may be?

Q3) If you have Windows 8 on your PC, then it's a 100% free update to Windows 8.1 via the Store.
You could also purchase a "retail" full copy of Windows 8.1 that you could do a clean install with.

Q4) Yes, Windows 8.1 was officially released to retail outlets on October 18th 2013.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
