Windows 8.1 screen goes Dark Blue

    Hey,

I recently changed to windows 8, there's a problem with my graphic card (I think). I play the lord of the rings online, and when I try to launch it, as soon as it goes into full screen, the whole screen gets dark bluish (not BSOD). When thah happens the screen stays that way even if I close lotro and the only way it goes back to normal is by rebooting. Can anyone help?

Here's a screenshot with my system specs:

P.S. I have tried updating my video card driver, it says it's up to date... the version is WDDM v1.1

Those are not your specs. We need detailed information about your graphic card and the driver version that is currently installed so download speccy and post the report please:

OK, thanks for that! I think there may be a later driver available and it looks like the beta is directed at fixing some gaming issues; however, no way to tell unless you try it. Anyway, you have two choices, relative to a driver update:

    1. Download the AMD auto-detect utility and let it check for the latest generally available driver:

    AMD Driver Autodetect

    2. Download the latest Beta driver and see what happens:

    Legacy

    Good luck.

Unfortunately, there is no specific detail as to what caused the failure. The only thing I can suggest from here is to go back and try to install "just the driver" and uncheck everything else that is "uncheckable" to see if the other failed installs are complicating the install of the actual driver. However, if this second try does not work, maybe someone else might chime in with other ideas. Good luck.

You can manually go in device manager, select your video card display driver, update driver, select browse my computer, select let me pick, and pick the version "8.970.100.7000" to force install the driver. I had to do this for ATI 4890 it kept defaulting to the default windows WDDM v1.1 version instead.
