Separate DVD-ROM drives in "This PC" ?

  1. #11

Please put 8.1 in title. I did edit the original post to change the title but it only shows the change from within the thread not from the forum index. It would stop people entering the thread and posting suggestions for Windows 8 instead of 8.1.

There are no 'types' anymore - it's all just 'Devices and drives' lumped together - removable flash drives, external drives, CD and DVD drives, etc.

I have not found a way to separate them like before.
Really? Well, in that case I don't think what you want is possible. You sure the setting is gone, maybe they moved it somewhere.

This is making me want 8.1 even less than I already didn't want it.

File system sorting is a bit funky. I have two removable Flash Drives (A & B), two external drives (R & S), and a DVD drive (F).
Flash A is NTFS, Flash B is for booting so it's FAT32.

Sorting by File system gives this:

Since then I had installed 8.1 - And I was sure I was able to list by Groups. I even posted a pic of it, in another thread. Is ther some place I can pull up old pics I posted?

Found it - This is Windows 8.1: The Items are hidden, but you can see my Grouping

Nope, I was wrong, this is 8.1 the other pic was 8.

Right click on the device in "my Computer", if the context menu for the device (ie USB Stick) has an option "open as portable device" I guess that your device is considered as removable by Windows; if not, it is considered a "hard disk drive".
eg: SanDisk USB stick are "hard drive" and Lexar USB stick are "removable disk"

    C'est d'accord ?

That makes sense, thanx for popping in to let us know that hahaha. Welcome to the Board.

I discovered later that Windows 8 had totally changed the way the Devices are grouped between Windows 8 and 8.1 - In 8 it is more like Windows 7 or Vistshite, in 8.1 it is a whole new grouping.
