Shift select key no longer working

I am an amateur at best so I need help. I have Windows 8 and suddenly my shift select doesn't work. I can no longer select a group of files Control select works but not shift select. What do I need to do to correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally your would select a file or folder, press and hold the Shift key, click/tap on another file or folder to select them and everything inbetween them, then release the Shift key.

Do you have check boxes to select turned on? If not, then you could use it as a temporary workaround to select files with.

Thank you Shawn for responding. My shift select has worked until today. I don't know what changed or why it would suddenly stop working. Because of my job I work with multiple files/pictures and use the shift select constantly for selecting/sending multiple files.

Since it just recently happened, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to undo and fix this for you.
