Plus key (+) opens Computer instead of adding?!

Recently installed Windows 8 on my machine, and for some reason, the "+" key on my numeric pad (under minus, above enter, etc) doesn't add or hit "plus", it opens Computer, instead! This is really inconvenient, as i use my computer's calculator a great deal.

I've tried a different keyboard, and obviously tried toggling numeric lock - no avail.

I bet/hope the fix is simple, but I absolutely cannot find anything out there on this.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, or has been solved already.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to Windows 8 Forums, as well as what I post here, check the Tutorials section for "Keyboard" - I'll check it myself and see if this has come up for anyone else, but it sounds unique I don't think it has.

You may have a program that has installed a shortcut to the Numpad + Key, or more likely, you have a keyboard installed into Windows 8/8.1 that doesn't match the one you are using. For a while, I had US English with UK Keyboard and that caused me a bunch of problems like this.

Go into your Language prefs and see what you have installed for Keyboard language, se if it matches your input language. If it's US English, it should be Qwerty:

None of these keyboards should affect Numeric Keypad though, but make sure your keyboard is the right one, or, check to see if there is a second keyboard installed, take it out.

I think you can use AutoHotKey, to remap it, this person here used it to change the plus to a tab, its possible you can use it to change the + key to default. This is all part of your Key Mapping, it might not be a problem with Keyboard, it may be a problem with your Motherboard especially if using a PS/2 KB.

I dont know if thats paid or not but there is a trial.

If this is something you need big time, I suggest getting a USB numeric Keypad:

Thanks for the response, guys.

I checked my keyboard settings, and sure enough, they're as they should be - and as XweAponX said, it shouldn't affect the numeric pad.

I managed to find a download for KeyTweak, and unfortunately, the "numpad +" key was already mapped correctly, so remapping it doesn't seem like a possible solution.

However, that also seems to hint strongly at the probability of a program causing this, I think, since the "+" key is definitely mapped as it is supposed to be, already... now I just have to figure out which one, and how, I suppose...

But great find on that KeyTweak program! I'll update if I figure out what program is causing this, as I think that's the only way to go now... If you have other thoughts, let me know!

You can try changing it to something else, then setting it back
