Solved Windows 8.1 Swipe instruction panel

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 each of the Metro apps has this annoying instruction panel about using swipe. It comes in from the left and the right and covers up items that I need to reach. It doesn't go away on it's own.

Is there any way to remove it? I don't have a touch screen, but there seems to be some need to constantly remind me that I can use swipe anyway. An example is attached.
