This seems a common problem in all early releases of windows. I basically open up the dvd drive in windows - past the files I want to burn to dvd - then I get that folder shortcut 'you have have files waiting to be burned' - but I don't get an option burn on right click.

I was in a hurry tonight - so just fired up power2go - burnt disc no problems ?

Any idea wots wrong with with Windows burning

Usually all you need to do is double click on the DVD burner icon in Windows File Explorer and the Burn Window will pop up, it will ask you if you wanna burn them as a USB drive or as a DVD/CD. Just open My Computer and double click the DVD drive.

Thats the crux of the problem - I don't get the DVD burner ICON.

Burn to DVD failure.
I d/l win 8.1iso and burnt to DVD on my win 8 desktop with no problem.
On my wife's Samsung win 8 laptop I also d/l win 8.1 iso ok but burn to DVD failed twice, firstly with windows burn and secondly with PowertoGo. For the latter I got an error code 0xeb020ba0 which could indicate either an incomplete, faulty file or faulty media (all DVDs used were Verbatim).

Anyway, I copied the iso file from the laptop to a USB pen drive which I then plugged into my desktop and then burnt the iso file directly and successfully from the USB drive to DVD with Windows burn.
In light of this might there be a hardware/software issue on the laptop that caused the burn fails?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Pedro

So, Windows is not detecting a Blank DVD in there, but other programs do, is that right?

Something got whacked during install, I'd do an In-Place Install, re-install your OS right over the top of the one that's doing this, do it from within Windows 8, choose "Upgrade" and it will re-install Windows 8 and repair anything that is missing or messed up. You should be able to use your license key, you may have to do a Phone Activation with it.

That's not quite correct. In both Windows burn and Power2Go burn, the laptop 'saw' the blank DVDs, and asked me whether to be a re-writable or mastered finish. In both cases, the files wrote to the media and it was only in the final stages of verification that I got the 'burn failed' message. But as I said, I transferred the files to my desktop PC where I was able to successfully burn a Windows 8.1 ISO DVD for the laptop. However, thanks for your suggestion. I will do a repair and see if that cures what might be problem with the optical drive and its drivers.

Ok, it won't finalize then.

How about Firmware Revisions for your Optical Drive. You can use Speccy or some other program to identify your Optical Drive Hardware make and model number. Sometimes you can pull this from Device Manager.

Check at

The Firmware Page ? Index page

For firmware revisions for the drive, if you can't find the OEM website. Just google "Firmware for (Make and Model of Drive)" - Sometimes, someone at RPC1 will have a file backed up you can use.
