Solved Just to be different - Update to W8.1 was a BREEZE

Hi there
Update for me was an absolute Breeze -- not a single app / driver needed to be re-installed.

My only gripe is missing Language packs - the W8 one's can't be used - but I'd assume they will be released later.

Whole installation (on SSD) took around 15 mins !! ( I did one from TechNet ISO and this one from the Windows store -- both went seamlessly).

I only posted this because some people seem to be having horrendous problems -- I just want to add a bit of calmness here - that in a lot (probably the majority) of cases the update should proceed fairly smoothly -- although I LOATHE the 1-click install type of stuff -- people should be given the choice to download the install and then install later offline if they want to.

1-click installs are a real pain even for experienced people when they go wrong as you've got almost no chance of fixing any errors.

Cheers
jimbo

Hmmm, I seem to have no luck. I just got a Laptop with W8 Oct. 10. But it's working too well as far as I can tell to risk updating. Only thing broken is search. But I turn off indexing and use Everything Search anyway. I wonder how long it will take for the new PCs to have it pre-installed?

You are one of the lucky ones to get the RT update and updated it with out error/BSOD...as MS has pulled it from the store for RT users because of the error/BSOD.

Ditto for me on the easy install, Two issues for me but both were minor. 1 that damned secure boot watermark (can't wait for a fix to that) 2 for some reason stereoscopic 3d got turned on.

Yes had no problem and it boots as normal, it took a while to update though. So is it still pulled from the store then?
