Changing target in the Explorer Shortcut Property Sheet

Upto Windows 8 it was easy to change the folder that would open on clicking a Windows Explorer shortcut. All that was needed was to change the target in the Property Sheet to the desired folder.

In Windows 8.1 this is not possible. On opening the Shortcut Property Sheet the target Text Box contains "File Explorer" which is greyed out and can't be changed. My question is how to change the shortcut target in textbox from "File Explorer" to "My Documents" or the R:\ Drive as in my case?

    Hello Junglee,

If you like, you could just create a new shortcut with the target you wanted, pin it to the taskbar, unpin the original explorer from the taskbar, then drag and drop the new pinned explorer to where the old one was.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thank you Shawn. I had tried that but it doesn't work. The "Pin to Taskbar" option is missing in the Context Menu. There is an option of pinning it to the Start Menu of the Classic Shell and that I had already done before posting my message.

Perhaps a Registry Hack is required, but I don't want to tinker over there with the present state of my knowlegde.

No worries. Option One in the tutorial below should work for you for folders.

I have the same problem as the original poster (not being able to change the target of the pinned File Explorer).

I've pinned a shortcut to the folder I want quick access to. However, this has caused a new problem.

When I click on the pinned folder shortcut, File Explorer opens and shows a extra button on the taskbar next to the pinned folder shortcut. So I now have two File Explorer buttons on the taskbar.

If anyone knows how to change the target of the file explorer shortcut, I'd be very grateful to know.

    Thanks!

Thanks Shawn, you are great. Option 1 did the trick.
