Solved Desktop shortcuts

How do I create a desktop shortcut for an application listed in the Start (ALL APPS) list in Windows 8?

I use Firefox and G-mail

Here's how I did it using Windows Movie Maker 6.0 as an example:

1. Open your "all apps" view
2. Right click the app you want to appear on your desktop
3. Select "open file location"




4. Once opened, right-click the highlighted exe file and select "create shortcut"




5. Select OK for desktop option




That should do it! Good luck.

Thank you for replying promptly to my enquiry re: creation of shortcuts in Windows 8. However, am sorry to say I am unable to find the wording FILE LOCATION. When I right-click on an icon in the window that shows all apps I get a check-mark on that icon BUT NOTHING HAPPENS.

I have been trying to create a desktop shortcut for the application, MAPS, but when I click on the checked icon in applications, I find that a full-screen window opens to show a world map as a DESKTOP BACKGROUND. This is not what I am after.

Unfortunately, apps from the Store do not have an option to create a shortcut for them.

If you like, the tutorial below can help show you how to create a Maps shortcut on your desktop though.

Many thks. You solved my problem, with which I had been wrestling in vain for a long time.

I worked well with Option TWO, and did not have to navigate beyond Step 3 where i am asked to click on FINISH.

Grateful for your help, particularly your promptness in replying and your expertise.
