Hi all,

hope i dont't have to reinstall all my system because
the snappy search that i loved so much in windows 8
does not longer works, it takes ages now (already disabled internet
search).

Is there some tweak to restore the "search" efficiency ?

thanks,

roy.

I think that you just need to wait for indexing to complete. Mine was slow after upgrading but after a day or so it was back to normal speed. If you go to Indexing Options it will tell you if it has finished or not.

Nope, indexing is complete, when I search for a file from "metro 8.1" a sort of
"search app" (white background) open up and after **several seconds** like
10'' or 15'' the correct search result is displayed;

searching from "metro 8" is (was) literally instantaneous !!

Yep, the new version of metro search just plain stinks IMHO. What I did to overcome that obstacle was to simply install Classic Shel and use that search option from the desktop. Now, it works like a top!

Hope this helps. Good luck.

You do realize that there's a search tool available already that is superior to Window's built-in search, right?

Everything Search Engine

Reinstall is a bad word nowadays... I mean if you have to redo stuff.... There is other alternatives. Such as reset or refresh which is a lot easier. Which is somewhat similar to a system restore :\

[h=2]Refresh your PC without affecting your files[/h]If your PC isn't performing as well as it once did, and you don't know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings.

[h=3]To refresh your PC[/h]
  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
    (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
  • Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
  • Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen

[h=2]Remove everything and reinstall Windows[/h]If you want to recycle your PC, give it away, or start over with it, you can reset it completely.

[h=3]To reset your PC[/h]
  • Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen

    [h=3]Notes[/h]
    • You might be asked to insert discs or recovery media that came with your PC. Check the info that came with your PC to see if your PC manufacturer provided these discs or media. In some cases, you might have created them when you first set up your PC.
    • If you upgraded your PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a Windows 8 recovery partition, resetting your PC will restore Windows 8. You’ll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after the reset has finished.

    Works well i recently had a driver issue..... which was causing a bsod and done a refresh and it was like new and i didnt loose any of my files

Interesting, can you launch a program (word or firefox) as well with this "everything search engine" ?

Just try it. It's really small & lightweight and you can use the portable version if you like.

Actually i think you were right, now it seems to be back to normal speed;
did check and it said "indexing complete" but it was not indeed.

Thanks to everyone, Roy.

Post Scriptum:
i mark this solved with: wait some several hours and the index will be complete,
also i disabled the bing search option.
