Win 8 to Win 8.1 question

I'm trying to update my Acer Aspire V5-122P from the pre-installed Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and so far it keeps failing with the error code 0xc0000005. I'm doing a refresh install to see if that will help. If I buy a full install version of Windows 8.1 will I be able to do a clean install or is the Windows 8 key in the bios and going to cause me problems?

The fresh install just finished. Now all I have to do is install 70 updates and try again.

Error code Oxc0000005 is a common problem. Google for best results. One recommended method was to clear the Windows Store cache and disable your AV.

Also, it is my understanding that the full Win 8.1 is only for upgrading from Win 7, so your BIOS may be effected. Some members on the forum have located/made an ISO and may opine.

I've tried clicking retry several times, System Restore twice and completely removing the MacAfee Security program that came pre-installed with no luck. Now I'm trying a refresh install. How do you clear the Windows Store cache?

Thanks! I'll give that a try after Windows gets done updating.

It may/may not be necessary depending on the results of the updates and if the install completes successfully.

I still can't update to Windows 8.1. I'm going to try one more thing and if it doesn't work I'm going to give up for awhile.

So after the updates were installed, you received the error message ?

Another thought would be to do a Refresh of your Win8 to return to defaults, disable the AV, clear the cache and try again. You may lose some apps, but your files would be saved.
