First off- I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this..

My trusty HP Pavilion just took the dirt nap.. Decided to take a foray into Windows 8 with a new laptop.

My requirements:

14" screen max
Touchscreen
I5 processor minimum
4gig ram minimum
500gig HD minimum
Want to stay under 600.00 after tax shipping
Not opposed to refurb, or scratch and dent.
Would like an optical drive but more as a bonus- not a deal killer.

So far I've narrowed my choices down to these

Lenovo |

And:

ASUS VivoBook Intel Core i5 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 24GB SSD 14" Touchscreen Ultrabook Windows 8 64-Bit S400CA-DH51T - Newegg.com

I found the Asus on Ebay, and Amazon for under 500.00 for a refurb..

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated even if it something other than the above..

Thanks..

That Lenovo at best buy looks decent IMHO and it is certainly more appealing (to me) than any EBAY purchase or refurb that was returned for a good reason (most likely). However, if you could hold off until they started to sell laptops with 8.1 pre-installed that might be a good move because many are having real issues when attempting to upgrade to win 8.1. Good luck with your own decision.
