Startup Screen Problems!

Hello. I am trying to change the image on the startup screen (the blue screen with a graphic of a tower on it)of my Inspiron 15 using windows 8. I have looked at the personalisation control panel, but it only offers me options to change themes, not the startup picture. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. My friend has a picture of honeycombe that came with system 8 as his startup screen, but he is away so I cannot ask him how he did it. I'm sure it's obvious and staring me in the face, problem is, I can't see how. Any help gratefully accepted.

Go to Start Screen> (right top swipe) Select settings> Personalize and then click the desired Start Screen background. The change should be immediately noticable. Hope this works for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'right swipe' as I do not have a touch screen laptop. I'm probably missing something again being a complete novice, but thanks anyway.

Move your mouse to the upper right corner and a menu will appear on the right side. Once visible, select the "cog looking wheel" to access the personalization menu:

I tried that, but it only gives me options to change the themes, desktop background, sounds etc, no startup screen option. I think I'll just resign myself to being confused and unable to change the screen pic at startup from the blue tower to something else. I'm sure it's very easy if one know's how, problem is I don't. I really appreciate the help you have given me though. Have a good week end.

Thanks for yr reply. My machine updated to 8.1 overnight when I had switched it off. I now see that with 8.1 one cannot, via the personalisation screen, as far as I can see, change the startup screen. That's fine, I can live with the stock screen & won't take up any more of your time. You've been very helpful and patient, thank you.

Finally we've cracked it. Well, you have, for it now works like a charm (no pun intended), It surprises me how unintuitive it was, but the best things come to those who wait. I hope this can be of use to others in the future. Once again, thanks for your patience and invaluable help.

In case anyone is still having problems setting their Start Screen or lockscreen backgrounds I made a couple of video tutorials.
