Updated to W8.1, very disappointed. Lots of things no longer work!
1. Sickbeard won't run.
2. Can't get to admin on my router.
3. IE11: Lastpass and X-marks won't run.
4. Lots of Store Apps "broken".

I see a system restore coming on.

Hi there
I've found the latest (W8.1 X-64) final - works fine

Try compatibility mode, disabling enhanced security and setting popups at will -- remember also that IE11 is trying to deprecate the use of Flash - however it will be a while before a lot of sites abandon it altogether

Cheers

Hi Jimbo,

I had so many issues that I decided to back out and restored my system.
You'd think after 40 years in IT I'd have learned to avoid the bleeding edge. :(

Upgrade installs are iffy at best. I'm actually surprised there aren't more problem threads as a result of Microsoft herding us all to the store for the update.

This one was actually touted as an update rather than an upgrade so I assumed it would work just like a service pack.

Silly me!

It's more than just a service pack. The Windows kernel gets updated and goes up one number. It goes to Version 6.3, its a new OS. There are some brave souls at Microsoft that likely didn't get much sleep last night. ;)

Yea, think I'm going to give it at least a month before making the leap. Not to mention I'm on satellite ISP with monthly allowance and this is a 3.2GB download.........ouch!

Suppose I could take the laptop to the library. Maybe when I finally decide to do it.

I would like to add that my Outlook has not been working since this update. I ran a test, and the test message from Outlook went through, but nothing else is going through.

E-mails are going through to my cell phone just fine and no settings have been changed. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you.

I'm about done with 8.1 already, keep on losing Internet connection with both wireless and LAN. Can keep a connection for a short while then it seems to disappear, it then either a restart of the PC or change from wireless to LAN connection until it drops then switch back again, becoming a right royal pain in the you know where. Will have to go back to win 7.

I had that issue when I updated to the preview though the store. I ended up going back to 8.0. My mouse and keyboard would cut in and out too so it was a pain just trying to update drivers and trouble shoot the problem. No such issues after doing a clean install of 8.1 though.

You can't, not easily anyway. The only official channels for download from Microsoft are TechNet and MSDN, and those are subscription services. Being a Microsoft MVP I have access to TechNet and MSDN. Before that I had to resort to bit torrent to find one.
This thread might be worth a look. http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/33164-how-download-windows-8-1-iso.html

It turns out that the Internet drop out are caused by the firmware in Telstra's Technicolor TG587N v3 modem, Windows 8.1 isn't playing fair with the firmware on that particular modem. Telstra explained what to do to bypass it until Technicolor engineers have fixed a new firmware for the modem. So anyone who is with Telstra and have one of these modems the fix is apparently due in the next week or so.
