If SkyDrive taking hours to sync, there's an issue elsewhere or, in the case of Window 7 or 8, a setting issue as discussed here. Bottom line: un-tick the box for ďUse Office to sync files faster and work on files with other people at the same timeĒ, and then click OK. Note this option is NOT available for the Win 8.1 SkyDrive app.

As for another sync solution, the OP could try SyncToy. You may need to install .net 2.0. in order to install SyncToy. Itís what I had before SyncToy would install on my Win 8.1 machine. Anyway itíll tell itís missing it if needs it.

I actually use it in conjunction with SkyDrive. I actually setup a folder inside of the SkyDrive to keep other folders sync'd.

    Anyway give SyncToy a look-see.

    Peace

There is util "GoodSync". It allows sync local folders with any clouds (SkyDrive, DropBox, etc.), other local folder. But this utility is difficult to setting. Moreover, you can synchronize with a separate folder in SkyDrive. As once allowed to do Mesh.

    Sorry for my English.

    Thanks for suggestion.
I have used MS SyncToy before but I had only bad experiences with it. Switched to FreeFileSync | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net and I'm very happy with it. It's frequently updated, well supported, works faster on my pc and has many more features and its free too. well it may be more difficult to configure because it has more features but I like it, gives more freedom. Also it works not only on windows.
Now I'm testing syncDriver for SkyDrive - SkyDrive Client Done Right as my SkyDrive client so far it's not bad. Not as light as desktop SkyDrive on windows 7/8 was but on 8.1 you can't use desktop app so that is best choice for me so far.

I was quite disappointed when I upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1 and found that my local account/domain account could no longer sync files using SkyDrive/OneDrive.

I really wish we had some choices when it comes to Deep integration of OneDrive. For some people, I can see why they would want the deep integration. I do not need any of this. I want ONLY the most basic features of OneDrive, a folder on the laptop that stays in sync with the folder in the cloud. Hence the reason that i still continue to use DropBox.

    Hey Patrick,

It's not the same, but you could still sign in to OneDrive online to use it while signed in to Windows 8.1 with a local account.

However, you could use a free program like syncDriver to sync OneDrive with a local account in Windows 8.1.

Yes, I know that I can do that. The thing that I find appealing about these cloud services is having the copy of the files locally as well as in the cloud. Reduces the chances that I will lose it for some reason.

I have it working now with typing my domain account to my Microsoft account. We don't lock that down at work and I only really need to have my OneDrive files synced to 1 computer.

I've been using DropBox for years, that's what's on my work computer, home desktop, wife's computer and my MacBookPro. The only thing that OneDrive ever offered better than DropBox for me was more storage space. But considering I have 6GB of free space on Dropbox and I'm only using 6.8% of that space, I don't think that's a huge concern.

I can totally see why MS wants to offer the ability to have things work with the MS account and such....but for some of us, we don't need/want to have all of our settings synced, and might just like the basic functionality like we have always had in the past. It's just nice to have a choice. It's like Google Sync, I love the feature and use it extensively. But it's an option, I can choose to use it or not. I like the choice.
