Solved Win 8.1 - How to Move Start Screen to Secondary Monitor?

I have a three monitor setup, and I prefer to have my start screen on the secondary monitor.

In Windows 8.0, win + page up or page down would move the start screen, but in 8.1, they have removed this keyboard shortcut.

Does anyone know how to move the start screen?

It's Windows Key + "P" + Up or Down arrows, you missed the P key.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Sorry, but you are describing another function.

I simply want to have the "Start Screen" or "Metro Screen" appear on my secondary monitor whenever I hit the Windows key. With Windows 8.0 the keyboard shortcut was Windows Key + Page Up/Page Down. However, this shortcut is no longer operational with Windows 8.1.

Anyone else have any insight on this?

Edit: For clarification's sake, I'm not trying to make the secondary monitor the primary monitor. That would move the start screen, but it won't solve my problem. I want to work on my primary screen in desktop mode, while the start screen (not just an app) runs on another monitor. This was possible in Win 8.0

Found this in the comments section of an article, but haven't had a chance to test it:

Looks like on Multiple Monitors they removed the Hot Keys for Moving Modern UI to the other monitors. Win + PgUP or Win + PgDn no longer move the Modern UI Screens. I found Clicking on the new Start Button is now how you move the screen. Which ever screen you click on the Start Button is where the Metro UI goes.. Not sure if I missed a setting for the WIN PgUp/PgDn to turn it back on or it is gone. I found it very handy.

This change caught me out. My PC is in my study, but there is also an HDMI lead to the projector we use for films. Before I would go into Netflix on my big sharp monitor, choose what to watch, set up a film, then Win+PageUp to move the Netflix app to the projector screen.

Enjoy film.

The end.

Yesterday I tried the same process and found that Win+PageUp didn't do anything. A quick Google revealed that I had to start Metro on the projector screen, and do the choosing on that screen (lower res, distant, nowhere near as good as the one in my study).

So is there still a way to start a Modern UI app on the main screen and then throw it to the projector screen when ready?

Once the Metro App is open mouse to the top center of the screen. When the cursor changes to a hand you can click and drag it over to your other monitor.

I have a three monitor setup with Windows 8.1. I can do a Windows key + shift + arrow key and move a Metro App from screen to screen. You have to click the app windows first to shift focus to it. If I have more than one app on a screen Windows key + arrow key just shuffles them around on that monitor.

I'm used to closing an app by grabbing it at the top and moving it down to the bottom - so what happens if I've got the screens arranged one above the other :)

I'll try it out later once the projector is up and running.

I have a three monitor setup with Windows 8.1. I can do a Windows key + shift + arrow key and move a Metro App from screen to screen. You have to click the app windows first to shift focus to it. If I have more than one app on a screen Windows key + arrow key just shuffles them around on that monitor.

Windows key + shift + arrow key seems to be the closest to what I am looking for. Unfortunately, the start screen won't stay locked on the secondary monitor (i.e. if I hit the windows key from the desktop, the start screen pops back to my main monitor).

Thanks for the help.

If you right click the taskbar and go to properties, there are some options under the Navigation Tab to look at. The "Show Start on the display I'm using when I press the Windows logo key" might work for you.

What I did was to hit "Shift + Win + < or >" and it moves to what ever screen you want. Also, if you click on taskbar properties and select "Show start on the Display I'm Using" and then install "classic shell", and it will give you back a free Windows 7 like start menu. Inside that classic Start menu is the "Start Screen" button, click on that from what ever monitor you want and the start screen will launch onto that monitor only, then launch what ever Metro App you desire and it to will launch onto that screen. This seems to remember its location so long you always launch the app or start screen from the Start Menu on the monitor you desire.

I searched long and hard for a way to always launch the Netflix App onto my secondary monitor, which is a 55" 1080p TV. This works perfectly.

Note: You can also put any Metro App locked into the new Start Button menu, so that it will always launch on the monitor you desire. No more keyboard shortcuts or dragging your apps to different monitors :thumb: Single tap or single left-click and your app instantly opens where you want.
