Downloaded MP3s launching automatically

Hi guys,

An annoying feature of Windows 8 I've been trying to stop is when I download audio it automatically launches the file, it was launching audio files in the Windows 8 audio player but I managed to get that changed to default to VLC but it still launches it automatically, how can I stop this behaviour?

Instead of clicking the link directly to download the mp3, try right-clicking and select "save link as" and the mp3 should just download without opening. See example below:
