Can't get my Pictures in File Explorer into 'Photos'

I have just had a factory reset & for some reason I can't get my photos in Pictures in File Explorer back into Photos. If I insert a flash drive with pictures on it & select 'Import' in Photos, it will import the photos but after supposedly downloading them, nothing! I have the 'Show photos & videos' box ticked off in Settings on the Charms panel.
Any suggestions?

    Touchscreen,
Same problem. None of these fixes I have found work for me. Somehow, the stupid Metro UI lost the ability to see or open any photo files. Photos app only loads videos. Tried every fix I can find but nothing works. Everything works fine with all my desktop applications, just the stupid Metro UI that cannot see any photos on my hard drive. Does see Facebook photos. Tried recreating Libraries, moving photo to another folder and then back. Anyone have any suggestions? It is the second time this has happened, the first time I had to reload Windows. I do not want to do this a second time. Better to stay with the desktop applications.
