Hi everyone,
I want to create a second primary partition on my first harddisk(disk 0 look at picture)

from the free space there in the extended partition(view screenshot). Now my problem is that whenever I want to create a new partition by right clicking and selecting "New Simple Volume" and selecting the formatting etc, I get another logical drive in the extended partition(look at picture below).

Is is not what I want. I want to move that free space out from the extended partition and add the unallocated 9 MB to it and then create a second primary partition on disk 0.

Note: If its possible I want to do this without using any third party software, IF POSSIBLE.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you can't do what you want without third party software. Windows does not support moving partitions in Disk Management. What you need to do to solve this is to move F: to the end of E:, then shrink the extended partition, then you can create a new primary partition after the extended partition.

Like I said, Windows Disk Management does not do this, so you'll need a third party tool. I suggest Paragon Partition Manager Express, which is free.

Hi there
don't bother with EXTENDED partitions

1) copy data from the partition(s) you want to re-organize to another disk / external USB drive.
2) download something free like GPARTED or any free partition manager and create the bootable media for the program
3) boot into the partition manager you downloaded and delete the extended partition
4) re-size and create Primary partitions at will (up to 4 with MBR type disks) with the partition manager you selected (a Windows OS type partition shouldn't need more than around 50 GB even for a big Windows system)
5) re-boot into your OS
6) copy data back from USB other backup media to new partitions.

Incidentally it's worth thinking about using GPT drives - these aren't subject to the Primary partition restrictions and can access partition sizes > 2TB -- you can only BOOT though from a GPT partition if your BIOS supports UEFI / EFI. Even if your system doesn't support UEFI / EFI you can still READ / WRITE GPT drives - you can't boot from them though.

I have downloaded Paragon Partition Manager. But I am unable to use it, so I am asking for some guidance. I am getting this structure of my harddisks shown by Paragon Partition Manager -:

pptm.jpg

Now my requirement as I have earlier stated is -:
  1. I want to create a 500 MB primary partition by taking free space from my E drive.
  2. I don't want to loose any data in from my E: or F: drive. I want to use the free space from E: only.
  3. I don't want to loose my partitions of E: and F: drive, ie. I don't want to merge the partitions into one.

Could you tell me the steps which I must execute to get the free space ? You see I am all thumbs here and am asking if you could walk me through the process before I do something stupid and catastrophic. Thanks. :)
