Are you trying to view these from a Web Page, or stream them into a Player or watch Local Content?

VLC should be enough, you don't need all that other stuff. When I searched "Media Monkey:" I found a bunch of alarming things like this:

MEDIA MONKEY = VIRUS PROBLEMS - Norton Community

So I would check for Virii, you may have picked up something, especially if you downloaded Mediamonkey from any site other than their home website. There are a bunch of scam websites that offer these free programs, but they attach VIRII into them, I even found virii in Classic Shell. A Virus will latch on to your main Browser, and add extra Search Results to the very top, a lof ot the results look legit, but they attach viruses to the installers, I've even seen Firefox with extra added Virii

I have had Media Monkey for about 8 Years and never a problem until a weeks ago See my "just closed Thread" I am not disagreeing with you but at the moment I really believe that the File Association stratus in Windows 8 is a Disaster. Since I bought the Computer it's been all about them making you run their Default Programs. Having said that I meant about Going onto Nine-MSM or Seven Sunrise and watching a "Catch-up Clip" of a Program that i missed last week. Not so much about Streaming? I can play YouTube no Problem. If you recon that Media Monkey is the Problem then feel free to say so. If you read my other Post about "Setting Your Default Programs" you will get the Idea. I have deleted the MediaMonkey.COM App there that's why I closed it all OK a bit Long winded I know but I know no other way of Describing it all' Thanks for your help Cheers Dasha

I'm not saying it is a bad program per se, but sometimes a virus will add "search engines" to your Browser, and even in Google, it will add results to the top of the list that are links directly to modified installers that can infect you more. But when I searched for Monkey, every 5th result was regarding some virus that had affected it.

Since you say that your File associations have all been messed up, that's another sign of an infection.

I don't know if there is a way to set all of your associations back to "Default" - You will have to do it one at a time. If the associations won't set to what you want, that's just another indication there may be a virus at work.

If you open Control Panel and go to "Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs" you can set each Program to it's original defaults, but only one at a time. Try that for your most used programs including Monkey, and see if it helps. But I highly suggest checking for a Virus, Rootkit or piece of Malware.
