Folders missing in a hard drive.

    Hello

I have two Internal Hard disks in my system. First one is partitioned and used for system. i don't have problem on this hard disk. My second hard disk is 500 GB, and is not partitioned. I m using this drive for storing movies and music. The problem I faced is two of the folders are missing from this drive. THese two folders have several files. All other folders and files are intact. I just checked hard disk's used space and found to be 463 GB. I then selected all folders and viewed the combined spaces(including hidden and system folders) and I found it to be 389 GB only. Where are my these two folders? How can I retrieve it? Where is (463-389=74 GB) of space which is included in drive's "Used Space" metrics.

My Computer is running on Windows 8

Any help will highly be appreciated

Most likely, the missing space is Restore Points, which are kept in the hidden System Volume Information folder. This folder is typically only accessible to the SYSTEM user, so it will not get counted when you select all files and folders (even if you have hidden and system files visible), because your user has no access to the folder.

Open your start screen and start typing "restore" then in the search window choose Create A Restore Point. When that pops up, check to see if System Protection is enabled on that drive, and if so, view the properties and see how much disk is in use for it.

    Thanks for answering my question.

The restore point is enabled for drive C: only which is in First Hard Disk.

    Thanks

Apart from restore point being disable for that Disk. I did Thorough Disk Check using CHKDSK D: /f /x /r. No space is in bad sector.
Also I just realized, the free space is 2.22 GB, which is same as before I lost these two folders.

    Thanks

Exploring that drive by other software such as Total Commander or Winrar to see if your lost folder was there

As already mentioned in original post, all files and folders are set to Visible, even a system files.

Are you sure the folder is lost? It's quite common that people accidentally click and drag a folder to another folder, which causes the folder to be "moved". Have you tried searching for the files you know are in that folder?
